Double Fine Announces New Kickstarter Campaign

Double Fine is once again looking to fans for support for its next game, Massive Chalice. Described as a fantasy, turn-based strategy game, Massive Chalice will be available sometime next fall for PC, Mac and Linux - as soon as it's fully backed on Kickstarter of course.

As of this writing, Massive Chalice is already more than halfway funded at over $450,000 - and this is within 24 hours of the project being launched. Massive Chalice has more than a highly likely chance of being over-funded if Double Fine's first Kickstarter campaign is any indication of how this new Kickstarter's success will play out.

Though initially labeled Double Fine Adventure, Broken Age, which is still under production, had a goal of $400,000 but ended up with over $3 million in contributions after the allotted month's campaign time in March 2012.

The Kickstarter page describes Massive Chalice as a "single player turn-based tactics game within a multi-generational strategy campaign."

Players will take on the roll of an immortal king or queen that will send a group of heroes into battles against invading demonic forces, arrange marriages to maintain your family's bloodline and many more tasks that are involved with running and maintaining a war-stricken kingdom. The creators say to think of this game as Final Fantasy Tactics crossed with XCOM with a touch of Game of Thrones.

Brad Muir, creator of Iron Brigade, will lead the project and the game will be developed on Double Fine's in-house 3D Buddha Engine.
