PSN Hot List - 8.6.2013

Every Tuesday the PSN updates at an unspecified time that always seems to catch us by surprise. While we can't solve that problem for you, or the fact that the new store just plain doesn't work, we can weed through all the junk and fill you in on what you need to spend your hard earned PSN cash on. This is the PSN Hot List.

 Games

It's a great week for games this week on the PSN!

Dragon's Crown (PS3 $49.99/PSVita$39.99) - Dragon's Crown is one of the best games I've played this year. It's a classic hack-'n-slash that tosses in some fairly deep RPG mechanics and mixes it all together. If you're planning on spending most of the time you're playing on the multiplayer end, I'd go with the PlayStation 3 version. If singleplayer's all you care about, go with the PlayStation Vita version. I'd recommend getting both versions if you have the money to spend.

Ibb & Obb (PS3 $9.99) - Ibb & Obb is the newest addition to this year's PLAY 2013 event. It's a two player puzzle game set in a world where gravity moves up and down. It has local and online co-op and features eight worlds in total. The game also features a soundtrack composed by Kettel. My favorite aspect of the game is its serenely adorable art style.

Tales of Xillia (PS3 $54.99) - I purchased Tales of Xillia since I don't have plans to review it, so I unfortunately haven't played it yet. IGN's Colin Moriarty gave the game an 8.0 saying, "Xillia’s ability to nurture Tales’ traditions while adding its own flavor to the mix is perhaps its greatest strength, and while it suffers from occasionally corny moments and a subpar graphical look, its weaknesses are overwhelmed by its complex systems, fun combat, interesting stories, and a compelling party of characters, not to mention its dueling protagonists."

I bought the game based off the fact that I like Jude's costume and the first English trailer. If I feel comfortable after I beat it I'll review it.

Editor's Note:

Ibb & Obb is also part of the PlayStation PLAY 2013 event. By purchasing Stealth Inc., Cloudberry Kingdom, Ibb and Obb and DuckTales: Remastered by August 20th, you'll get money back in PlayStation Store currency. If you purchase two of the four games you'll receive $3.00, purchasing three of the four will net you $6.00, and purchasing all four of the titles will get you $10.00 back, essentially giving you one of the games for free.

DLC

Soul Sacrifice (PSVita FREE) - 8  new stages and two new bosses.

PlayStation Plus Update and Other Discounts

Sound Shapes - (PS3/PSVita - $7.49) - It's Sound Shapes first birthday! To celebrate the occasion, the game and all its DLC is half off. You can also snag every one of the game's avatars for the low, low cost of FREE! This is one of my favorite games of all time, so you should definitely buy it.

Rayman Origins - (PS3 $9.99 / PSVita $13.49) - Rayman Origins is one of the most beautiful (and fun) platformers ever created. I prefer the PSVita version since it looks so great on the OLED screen. I definitely suggest picking this one up to get ready for Rayman Legends this fall.
