Random Havok Podcast - Episode 6

This week we talk about the long rumored Xbox One, Remote Play of PS4 games on the PlayStation Vita, and the Vita getting its own version of Rayman Legends! Our awesome intro by Jimmy Steenland (check out his band, Wild Camp here) makes a return, and Robot Science was nice enough to let us use his music for the outro!

Rayman Legends is Coming to Vita

No, you're not mistaken! The former Wii U exclusive, Rayman Legends is coming to the PlayStation Vita on September 3rd! Originally slated as a Wii U launch window title, fans of the game were extremely disappointed when it was controversially delayed so that it could be ported to other consoles.

Thomas Was Alone Review

Brought to Life

Thomas Was Alone is one of the best experiences I’ve had with video games this year. It’s a true testament to the fact that once in a great while, a video game can show you something about yourself that you didn’t know was there, lying dormant and deep within. It’s a game that everyone should walk away from feeling like they have learned something. It’s also a game that I feel finds its perfect home on the PlayStation Vita.

"Curiosity" Project Comes to an End

After six months of chipping away at cubelets, the 22cans social project, led by Peter Molyneux, has come to an end. Curiosity - what's inside the cube, an iOS and Android app, was a social experiment set up by Molyneux and his team at 22cans to see if the world could unite under the simple question of "what's inside the cube?" On May 27, one person reached the center.

Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault Vita Releases TODAY!

Last week, I wrote a feature on the troubled past of Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault’s version for the PlayStation Vita. Today, I am happy to report that the game will become available as soon as the PlayStation Store updates.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac’s Community Lead, James Stevenson revealed that the game would launch for Vita along with a free copy of Ratchet: Deadlocked HD, a new map for both PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 and a new 2v2 multiplayer mode for the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

He explained how the game would become available by saying, “For those of you with the retail copy of FFA, you’ll be able to download Deadlocked HD as well as the Vita version of FFA to your PS3 and transfer to your PS Vita. You can do this by accessing the “Disc Benefits” option on May 21st. If you downloaded FFA, the PS Vita version and Deadlocked will appear free for you on the PlayStation storefront.”

I personally am very excited to finally sit down and play this game on the console I originally bought the game to play on. Ratchet: Deadlocked HD is also a nice touch.

Candy Crush Saga Review

The average lifespan of a game app on my iPhone is about two weeks. The especially horrendous ones get kicked off within the first hours of being downloaded. Candy Crush Saga is one of those special apps that has secured a permanent place on my iPhone. The variety of challenges and unique gameplay make this seemingly typical Bejeweled clone fiendishly addictive, though like all free-to-play games, it has its flaws.

Where is Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault's Vita Version?

Way back in August, 2012 at Gamescom in Germany, Sony announced that Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault would be coming to the PlayStation Vita as well as the PlayStation 3. They also announced it would support Cross-Buy, giving buyers of the PlayStation 3 version both titles for the price of one.

We're half way through May of 2013 and we still don't have the Vita version of the game.

Indie Games Category Added To The PlayStation Store

A month or two ago, I wrote a feature on the PlayStation Vita talking about how Sony is trying very hard to get indie developers to port their games to it's flagship handheld. Pushing this tactic even further, Sony launched a new category in the PlayStation Store called "Indie Games"today.

In a post on The PlayStation Blog, Pierre Gravereau, Senior Manager of Digital Distribution went in depth on why they've added this section to the store.

He said, "This category builds on the support that PlayStation has offered independent developers in the effort to highlight some of the most unique gaming experiences on PlayStation platforms. Most recently, we released four stellar independently developed games during our recent Spring Fever event on the PlayStation Store. We also showcased upcoming PS3 and PS Vita games from indie developers along with highlighting two new games coming to the PS4 during our recent Indie Arcade at GDC."

Sony has been on top of things lately in the sense of showcasing of indie development  It's good to see them taking this step forward in providing a place for indie games to stand out amongst the big-budget AAA titles each week.

Thanks go to The PlayStation Blog for images.

Sony Announces Three New PlayStation Vita Titles

You may not have noticed today with the Doublefine HumbleBundle starting up, and the lead designer of the Assassin's Creed franchise getting fired by Ubisoft, but Sony announced three new games for the PlayStation Vita.

Following suit with many PlayStation titles these games all seem to be a bit quirky, but it's always good to see new content on Sony's flagship handheld. The PlayStation Blog posted three individual stories about these games throughout the day. We've taken the highlights from each story and posted them right here just for you. If you want more info, be sure to click the titles of each game below.

Draw Slasher Review

On paper, Draw Slasher comes off as a really cool idea. A game where you control a ninja by drawing a path for him to rip through with his katana, RPG mechanics and super attacks sounds like it could be pretty fun. Granted, the enemies being zombie-pirate-monkeys is a little bit silly, but that fact could have turned into a serious charm factor. Sadly, despite Draw Slasher having a promising concept, the parts don't add up to a good experience.

Website Feature: Good Game, Streaming for Charity

Streaming video games for charity isn't new, but unlike some of the larger streams, this stream has a very specific mission. On April 15, the Boston Marathon ended abruptly when two bombs exploded in the area, killing three and injuring hundreds. Victims of the attack and their families are still recovering from their physical and emotional damage Enter Good Game.

Twenty three people - games journalists, YouTubers, developers and more - will be rotating shifts from Friday, May 3 until early Monday, May 6 to stream in the name of charity, specifically the One Fund Boston, Inc.. The charity offers financial support to the Boston Marathon bombing victims.
