Following suit with many PlayStation titles these games all seem to be a bit quirky, but it's always good to see new content on Sony's flagship handheld. The PlayStation Blog posted three individual stories about these games throughout the day. We've taken the highlights from each story and posted them right here just for you. If you want more info, be sure to click the titles of each game below.
CounterSpy
First up we have my personal favorite of the bunch, CounterSpy. The game is being developed by Dynamighty, a team of just ten people with pedigrees ranging from Pixar to LucasArts.
In a post on The PlayStation Blog, Lead Designer, David Nottingham described the premise of the game. Saying, "As an elite member of C.O.U.N.T.E.R., your goal is to infiltrate, sabotage, and strike at the heart of two opposing Super Powers embroiled in a frenetic Arms Race that threatens the existence of humanity. You are countering the insane plans of these Cold War foes, raiding their seemingly impregnable bases and undermining their mad military machinations, all before they can launch their ever more ridiculous weapons of mass destruction against each other."
Gameplay is described as being similar to games like Metroid and Shadow Complex, so a comparison to the recent critical hit Guacamelee! doesn't seem too far out of place either. All signs point to a 2013 release date, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Hohokum
This game is definitely falling on the quirky end of the scale. Coming in 2014, Hohokum is the product of a collaboration comprising of artist Richard Hogg, and a London based studio called Honeyslug.
Hogg said that in the game, "You take on the role of a curious flying snake-like character. A technicolor, calligraphic, worm-like, kite-like being! The way you move around the world is very expressive and kinetic and kind of mesmerizing to play."
I was immediately instilled with memories of the PSP and PS3 franchise Locoroco, but with so few details given, it's hard to tell what the game will play like.
Doki-Doki Universe
Taking the award for most abstract game announced today, Doki-Doki Universe (it's a working title) is a game that was desribed by HumaNature Studio's founder Greg Johnson as being, "A set of related products that will be released at the same time. Players’ first exposure to Doki-Doki will be in the form of a free download for their PS Vita, PS3 or PS4. This is a light version of the game where players can fly around a Universe and take fun personality quizzes.”
He then went on to say that, "If players decide they want to land on planets and interact with all the crazy characters in our Universe, they can purchase and download the full game, which you might call an ‘RPG/Simulation/Interactive Story’ game.”
Johnson also revealed a basic summary of the game's premise. He said, "In Doki-Doki Universe, you’re a robot named Model QT377665, or QT3 for short (QT – get it?). Your human family said to wait here on this asteroid, and they would be right back to get you.
That was 11,432 days ago. Bummer."
No release window was given for Doki-Doki Universe.
