Saints Row IV and State of Decay Denied Classification in Australia

Saints Row IV and State of Decay has been refused a classification from Australia's Classification Board, meaning neither game will be released in the country at this time.

According to the Australian Classification Board, Deep Silver's Saints Row IV was the first video game to fail to receive a classification under the Board's new guideline that have been in place for six months.

"In the Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines," the Classification Board's media release stated.

Undead Labs' State of Decay was not criticized for it's violence, but for it's depiction of proscribed drug use Polygon reported.  Jeff Strain, Undead Labs founder, broke the news on the Undead Labs official forum.

"We've run afoul of certain prohibitions regarding the depiction of drug use," Strain wrote. "We're working with Microsoft to come up with options, including changing names of certain medications in the game to comply with ratings requirements."

Deep Silver told Polygon they are also looking for ways to alter their in-game items to meet the Classification Board's criteria while still maintaining the integrity of the game.

Look out for our State of Decay review in the coming week.
