Black 3DS XL Incoming

Just a few weeks ago rumors were stirring about a black 3DS XL. Well, it looks like the rumors were true! Today Nintendo announced it's fourth addition to the existing 3DS XL color line.

PSN Hot List - 7.30.13

Every Tuesday the PSN updates at an unspecified time that always seems to catch us by surprise. While we can't solve that problem for you, or the fact that the new store just plain doesn't work, we can weed through all the junk and fill you in on what you need to spend your hard earned PSN cash on. This is the PSN Hot List.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe Wii U Review

Mutant Mudds is the type of game that induces nostalgia without there really being any at all. The nostalgia comes from the art style Renegade Kid chose for the game. This particular style takes a lot of cues from both the 8-bit and 16-bit era. It is very fitting considering some of the best 2D platformers appeared during these eras. Renegade Kid was not happy with just using the same pixelated style, instead coming up with their own style that they call 12-bit. It is the perfect fit for this 2D action platformer. Though this style makes the game special, it also adds to the well-loved mechanics of platformers. Now you are not just going from one end of the screen to the other, you are also bouncing back and forth between the background and foreground.

Beyond 300 vM: Saturday and Sunday

Read my post for Thursday here and my post for Friday here

Saturday was the most delicious day of the trip. Though not the most conventional breakfast, Aaron and I began our morning with street hot dogs, something Jimmy had recommended. We sat down in Union Square and planned our day. Saturday, we especially missed Jordan. The main reason he wanted to join us on our little adventure was to meet our friend Roswin. Aaron and Jordan met Roswin over Xbox Live in middle school (about seven years ago) and have been friends ever since. Roswin lives 30 minutes outside of the city, so Aaron and I had the opportunity to meet him during our last visit to San Francisco, but Jordan has yet to meet him in person.

3 Legendary Pokemon Exclusively Available at GameStop

As we've all been anxiously awaiting Pokemon X and Y's release in October, Nintendo was busy cooking up something special. Today, Nintendo announced that they would be teaming up with GameStop to release three shiny variations of Legendary Pokemon from past games.

PSA: Win a Free Copy of PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD

UPDATE: Both codes have been claimed, BUT still follow Lee because he'll be doing more giveaways soon.

Hopefully you've read our review of PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD by now. If you haven't, click this link and enjoy. Long story short, I love the game. I gave it a pretty high score, and in my personal opinion it understands what a Vita game should be better than many other games that you can play on the handheld.

Lucky for you, you can win a copy of the game for free!

Battery Backed Memories: Kingdom Hearts

Hi, my name’s Jakob. I’m the latest addition to the Random Havok team. I play video games and tabletop games, I make things, and I'm also a dad. Battery Backed Memories will be a semi-regular, somewhat self-indulgent column about the games that are most special to me, and the ways in which they've impacted my life, for better or worse. My hope is that some of my experiences relate to yours and we can share a warm, fuzzy moment together reminiscing. Also, please be aware that since the stories will focus on older games, spoiler alerts are in effect.

PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD Review

Tikiman is back in business and he looks better than ever! Just when your PSVita's memory card is about to explode due to the steady flow of amazing games this summer (Hotline Miami, Stealth Inc., and Velocity Ultra), Double Eleven Ltd. comes out of nowhere with one of the most addictive experiences on the console yet. Just like PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe felt like it belonged on the PSP, PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD Edition feels like it belongs on the PSVita.

Beyond 300vM: Perfect Friday

I sprang out of bed faster than Jack could even think of popping out of his box. I couldn't say the same for Aaron, but I knew he was excited for me. While performing my typical morning ritual, I turned on Beyond 200. The "BEYOND!" from the audience boomed through my little iPhone speakers filled me with exhilaration. I put on my eyeliner extra carefully that morning.

Call of Duty: Ghost Coming to Wii U

When it comes to third party games, it’s been a rough year for Nintendo’s newest home console. The company has lost exclusivity to Rayman Legends, and to make matters worse games like Bioshock Infinite never made an appearance on the Wii U .

Microsoft is Making the Xbox One More Indie Friendly

Microsoft is eliminating their publisher requirement for the Xbox One, allowing independent developers to be in control of their game's pricing and release date, IGN reported. Earlier today, Game Informer reported that anonymous sources said Microsoft is also looking into changing its games certification process, which has also been confirmed by various news outlets.

5 Indie Studios You Need To Keep an Eye On

With the next generation of gaming looming just over the horizon, I feel that now would be a great time to give you a list of indie studios you should keep an eye on as this one winds down. With the gaming industry pushing even closer to a digital only future, the differential between "downloadable" and "retail" games is rapidly disappearing and in turn pushing indie titles into the same space as their more expensive counterparts.

Beyond 300 vM: Panic Thursday

Unlike Jimmy's dreamy Thursday before Beyond 300, mine was chaos. In fact, my Thursday actually began on Wednesday around 7:45 p.m. when my boyfriend's father called me as I was getting off of work. He told me our party of three (my boyfriend Aaron, his best friend Jordan and myself) needed to pack and get to the airport before 9:25 p.m. or we would probably not make it to San Francisco.

Beyond 300 - The Best Weekend of My Life Part Three: Saturday

Saturday - 7-13

Saturday morning started early (big surprise), and I was still full of excitement from the night before. We ate breakfast (Frosted Flakes again), and we set off for a big flea market in San Jose (one of my dad's favorite past times). I didn't see anything too enticing there, but I did purchase a Kindle for $10 so I considered it an overall sucess. We stopped at Stanford University on the way back, and I was filled with rage and jealousy towards pretty much every student who attends school there.

Guest Column: eShop and DSiWare Gems

If there’s one thing download services get right, it’s that they offer plenty of bite-sized titles that are a mix of enjoyable and cheap. While there are tons of games on online marketplaces that, well… are less than desirable, there are quite a few that can stand up to retail juggernauts. The featured storefront in this column is the Nintendo DSiWare and 3DS eShop; launched during the DSi’s introduction in 2009 and reinvented in 2011 to coincide with the 3DS’ release, the store has since grown to retail titles and digital demos. The following games have proven that short but sweet experiences are the reason the shop exists, as well as a very enticing price point that can only be beaten by ever addicting Steam sales (the titles featured retail for less than ten dollars on the eShop).

PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD - Tikiman is Coming!

That's right, it won't be long before you're once again reunited with everyone's favorite Tikiman.

Capcom's XBLA Sale Leaves Games Super Cheap

If you're like me and bummed out that you own a Mac during this fantastic Summer Steam Sale, or if you just prefer gaming on your console, Capcom has marked down many of its games on the Xbox Live Marketplace. From today, July 15 until July 22, Capcom is giving Xbox owners a chance to substantially save.

Beyond 300 - The Best Weekend of My Life Part Two: Friday

Friday - 7-12

I woke up Friday morning with one of the biggest grins on my face that I'd ever grinned. "Today's the day", I thought to myself. All of the cold winter days of removing my gloves to grab those earbuds with brittle fingers as soon as the new Beyond! was up, study sessions that were anything but thanks to the show, and spilling countless drinks every time I heard the words "Sypher Filton" come out of Ryan's mouth, had lead to this. I was going to be part of an episode of Podcast Beyond!.

Beyond 300 - The Best Weekend of My Life Part One: Thursday

Thursday - 7-11

When I got on the plane that would take me to San Francisco, CA last Thursday, there were a lot of unknowns in my life. Thoughts like "Is my goal to work at IGN someday really obtainable?", "Will I actually get to talk to the people who are my greatest inspiration?", "Will they be anything like they are on the various articles, videos, and videos that I read, watch, and listen to every day?" were plastered at the forefront of my mind. Now I'm at home sitting on my couch, and I'm extremely happy to report that I know the answers to every one of the questions I had going into this past weekend.

Read About My Weekend at IGN

As anyone reading this probably knows, the 300th episode of Podcast Beyond was this past Friday. Originally I planned to write about my experience in San Francisco, but thanks to some amazing people at IGN, there's just too much to put into one post.

LIMBO Review (PSVita)

LIMBO is a game that tells you everything it can by not ever saying a word. In the game you’ll play as a little boy lost in the woods who has no idea who he is, where he’s from, or even where he’s headed. The magical thing about it is that that’s exactly how the game makes you, the player feel as you traverse it's depressing tale.

Deus Ex: The Fall - Dated and Priced

How soon is very soon? Well how does this Thursday sound? That's right, you'll only be waiting three more days until you'll be able to get your hot little fingers all over the new game.

State of Decay Review

The story of the zombie apocalypse has been told time and time again, but I've never felt so frazzled or panicked while surviving with my in-game counterpart as I did while playing State of Decay. This sandbox zombie RPG will take you through a tense, yet incredibly buggy zombie experience. Undead Labs, the studio behind State of Decay, has created this world so that every action you take molds your environment and shapes the story you'll play through.

Velocity Ultra is Available NOW!

Velocity Ultra, FuturLab's high-definition remake of last year's stellar PlayStation Mini, Velocity is now available on the PlayStation Store for just $7.49.
